What is Sunshine Cinema? 2021

Podcasts

In 2020 alongside the DGMT program, we launched the Zimbabwean collaboration with Internews. These projects’ main focus was to use screenings to spark engagement. When lockdowns were implemented we shifted focus to develop online training for the SBAS, hosting webinars and whatsapp chats , and producing podcasts. During that time Sunbox Ambassadors Richard Shumba in Gweru and Bulisile Mgunie in Bulawayo, who are two young agents of change passionate about media activism, have both been producing podcasts for the last 14 months.

Mental Health Awareness

Richard Shumba adressed mental health issues which have been at the forefront of conversation during the pandemic through his podcast with Max Elson Rufu from Queen of Peace Rehabilitation Center. In it they debunk myths around mental health and discuss the importance of destigmatizing the subject.

Breast Cancer- Are you clued up?

Bulisile Mguni addressed Breast Cancer Awareness as we honoured breast cancer awareness month in October. She spoke to people in her community about how much they know about the illness. She goes on to address myths and uncertainties around the often-fatal disease and gives some pointers on what could be warning signs that something is wrong with your breasts.
